About Silver Lake!

Silver Lake Mennonite Camp is a summer camp in Sauble Beach, ON that aims to foster spiritual and personal growth, community, and environmental care.

Serving over 1,100 campers in 2023, we offer overnight camps, onsite and offsite day camps, and backcountry hiking and canoeing trips. SLMC holds 150 acres of forests, fields, two lakes (Silver Lake and Carson Lake), and a profound community that has kept camp going strong since its establishment in 1961.

Everyone is welcome! SLMC strives to be a place of inclusion for anybody of any race, religion, social or economic status, gender, and sexual orientation.

Inclusion Program

The Inclusion Program facilitates the inclusion of children with developmental needs into the regular program with campers their own age. This gives an opportunity for any camper requiring more attention and care to participate and allows for learning and growth within the entire camp community.

Financial Assistance

Silver Lake has a Campership Fund that provides financial assistance for children who would otherwise be unable to attend camp because of financial constraints. Additional information is available here.

Facilities

Cabins: Most cabins are equipped with bunk beds and ceiling fans, and all are within steps of a kybo (outhouse). Eight cabins were built brand new since 2012. Those on the south side of camp have slides from the porch and rock climbing walls underneath the cabin!

Dining Hall: Campers and staff eat three homecooked meals per day together in the Dining Hall, widely considered the heart of camp. Rebuilt in 2011 following a fire, the Dining Hall has washrooms, as well as a health centre, where campers can have their medications before or after meals.

Washhouse: Showers and washing machines are in the washhouse, which was rebuilt in 2019.

Activities and Programming

Why Choose Silver Lake?

We understand that choosing the right summer camp for your child is a significant decision! Camp shapes a child and adolescent in so many ways. Here are reasons why some of our families choose Silver Lake:

  1. Counsellors and Summer Staff

Our staff are second to none, always doing their best to know and understand each camper and create a camp experience your child won’t forget.

  1. Community

Silver Lake is lucky to have a strong community of staff, volunteers, donors, and parents who share a vision for caring about each other and the environment and empowering children through summer camp.

  1. Personal Growth

Our staff foster a safe and supportive atmosphere that allows campers to explore and find their authentic selves.

  1. Connection to Spirituality

People have different ways of finding their spirituality. At Silver Lake, there are opportunities for everyone, from the solidarity of nature, to singing around the campfire, to Quest sessions with the cabin, conversations with counsellors, and so much more!

  1. The Food!

Our head cook, kitchen assistants, and strong teams of volunteers are always making the most delicious meals with fresh, healthy ingredients. It’s hard to walk past the Dining Hall without poking your head in to investigate the yummy smells coming from the kitchen!

Offseason

Silver Lake is buzzing year-round! Before and after camp months, the property is used for retreats, rental groups, and the Outdoor Education program for elementary and high school students.

In 2023, SLMC introduced the Land-Based Learning Program for Indigenous high school students. Those in the program explore outdoor skillsets with Indigenous leaders from local communities.
