Retreats

Throughout the year Silver Lake offers organized Retreats.  Just register, pack and show up.! All retreats include delicious food, excellent programs and exceptional staff.  See below for a description of each retreat.

1.  MCEC Fall Youth Retreat: November 8-10, 2019

2.  Fathers and Kids Retreat: January 17-19, 2020

Dads enjoy free-time Saturday morning (coffee in abundance) while staff provide programming with kids. NOTE: Father is defined as any male adult mentor. Cost: $250 for Father and 1 Child (each additional child$50) See Packing List  &  Schedule.

3.  Women’s Retreat: February 7-9, 2020

Theme: Let Your Love Sing! Lessons of the Singing Bowl.  Have you ever tried to get a singing bowl to sing? It’s a lot harder than it looks! Singing bowls have much to teach us about life and love. This year you will be invited to Let Your Love Sing! Delve into the mystery of love and be inspired by spiritual teachers. Tanya Dyck Steinmann, pastor and spiritual director and Suzanne Bender, ukulelist extraordinaire will offer times of worship, reflection and creative expression to open the heart and mind and enrich the spirit. Experience the beauty of creation. Be nourished by the relaxed pace, good food and meaningful conversation. Play in the snow, breathe deeply in yoga, treat yourself to a massage, cross country ski, enjoy late night laughs in the sauna. Just breathe and become an open singing bowl.   Retreat Cost: $225 per person.

4. Couples Retreat!  February 21-23, 2020.

Take time away to reconnect and enjoy a weekend away together.  No meals to make.  No obligations pulling you in different directions.  Time to relax and breathe deeply to rejuvenate.  Wake up to the sounds of nature.  Enjoy the fire.  Find yourself in good conversation, savouring delicious food, tuning into workshops and enjoying time outdoors.  Retreat Cost:  $400 per couple.

5.  Winter Camp for Grownups!   Feb 28 – Mar 1, 2020

This camp is for 20 and 30 somethings who wish they could do camp again! Enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skating on the lake, relaxing in the sauna, walking through the woods, good conversation by the fire and exceptional food.  This weekend is the perfect winter escape and is a collaboration between Pastors in Exile and Silver Lake. Sliding Scale: Full: $150. Subsidized: $110. Student/Underemployed: $65.  Register through PiE at pamela@pastorsinexile.org.

6.  Child Development Workshop:  March 29, 2020 12:30pm

This workshop is for anyone wanting to learn more about children’s development and how to connect well with children.  More info. to come.  Join in person or remotely (information provided after registration).  There is no fee but please register so that we know who is planning to come.

7.  Spring Work Weekend:  May 1-3, 2020

This weekend is only for those who enjoy doing physical labour and cleaning up camp.  It is fun and family friendly.  Saturday is spent doing various tasks around the property. Generally people divide into small groups or teams and tackle projects on the list that excite them (and have the skill set for!)  Food is provided – really yummy food!  You can leave Saturday after dinner or stay and leave Sunday. Sunday breakfast is provided. Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or have a parent sign a waiver entrusting them to responsible adult. (That includes CILT 2s from this past summer.)

8.  MCEC Junior Youth Retreat- May 8-10, 2020

9.  Paddle the Grand Fundraiser: May 9, 2020

Silver Lake has only one fundraiser each year for it’s annual budget called Paddle the Grand. Funds raised from this event are used to support all kinds of camp costs, such as staff wages, camperships, programming, food, etc… Last year was a record-breaking year so let’s continue the trend!  Register to let us know you’re planning to come to Paddle the Grand this year!

10.  Family Camp: May 15-17, 2020

Enjoy a weekend of fun-filled memories!  Families experience waterfront activities, sports, campfires, games, meals provided and much more!  Join us for a weekend of fun, good family time, and enjoying everything Silver Lake has to offer.  The weekend is especially beneficial for any camper considering coming to camp for the first time.  Cost depends on type of accommodation chosen:  $400 for a room at the Meadows or in the Staff Cabin; $375 for a shared cabin or $295 if you bring a tent or trailer.

11.  Spring Bruce Trail Hike:  May 22-24, 2020

Join us for a hike along the Sydenham section of the Bruce Trail. hiking about 30 kms over 2 days.  Reflection times, great food  and a comfortable bed at the end of the day!  Must be able to walk at least 10 kms with relative ease prior to the hike.  Cost:  $400 per person (includes 2 nights accommodations)

12.  Newcomer Family Holiday: May 29-June 1, 2020

Register through MCC Ontario.

13.  Men’s Retreat: September 18-20, 2020

Participants enjoy a weekend of relaxation, connection and good food. Enjoy low ropes activities, swimming, boating, games, campfires, nature walks, and the sauna. This year’s theme is “Into the Wilderness.” with Marcus Shantz, President of Conrad Grebel University College.  The retreat is full every year so register early! Cost is $225 per person.

 

14.  Bruce Trail Hike FALL:  October 17-18, 2020

Join us for a hike along the Blue Mountains section of the Bruce Trail. hiking about 30 kms over 2 days.  Reflection times, great food  and a comfortable bed at the end of the day!  Must be able to walk at least 10 kms with relative ease prior to the hike.  Two nights (Friday and Saturday) accommodation included.  Cost:  $400 per person.

Group Rentals

Silver Lake Mennonite Camp is available for rental from early September to late June. Our facilities can accommodate large (90 people in winter, and up to 150 people in spring and fall) and small groups (15 people or less). Our facilities are clean and well maintained with a beautiful dining hall and kitchen facility at the heart of camp. Silver Lake staff are available to rental groups for an added fee. All Retreat groups can enjoy everything Silver Lake’s 150 acres of forest, field and lake has to offer including; canoeing, kayaking, swimming, basketball, soccer, low ropes course (only available upon request and with trained Silver Lake staff member), walking trails and clean, well maintained facilities. Outdoor Education Centre

For 50 years Silver Lake Mennonite Camp has been a place for children to visit and explore the great outdoors. In addition to operating a summer camp, an exciting, outdoor education experience is offered.  Select from extensive curriculum based programming or have Silver Lake create custom schedules and programs to meet the unique needs of your group.
