Meet Vonn, the New Camp Dog

Posted on: May 27th, 2015 by Silver Lake Mennonite Camp

Vonn is the newest member of the Silver Lake team! He’s a 10 week old service dog who will be with us for the next 9 months. Vonn’s favourite activities include harassing Harley (14 year old camp dog who’s blind and deaf), chasing the chickens, riding around on the golf cart and chewing socks from the lost and found. He’s also good at comforting homesick campers and students!

Remembering Jen McTavish

Posted on: May 15th, 2015 by Silver Lake Mennonite Camp

Jen4Jen McTavish joined the SLMC staff in the summer of 1990. She took on many leadership roles, including C.I.L.T. Director, Assistant Director, and finally, Director. Jen’s love of the outdoors and out-tripping had her always looking for new canoe routes and hiking trails to make the camp experience memorable for all campers.

She was integral in bringing the Initiative Skills and Low Ropes installation to the old ‘Family Camp’. Jen always showed enthusiasm (and humour!) when leading camp songs, when participating in an all-camp play or storytelling around a fire. All staff and campers were blessed to have Jen as a leader and friend.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Jen with her family at the Erb 7 Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South in Waterloo on Friday from 7-9 pm and Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held Sunday May 17, 2015 at 2:30 pm at Rockway Mennonite Church in Kitchener.

Donations to Silver Lake in memory of Jen may be arranged through the funeral home http://www.erbgood.com/ or by clicking on the CanadaHelps link below.
